Two Ladies & Their TVs

We love our shows so much we created a blog for it.

About the Ladies

athenawj is a writer-mama-artist-editor-blue ribbon junkie who can't get enough of her favorite t.v. shows (and the ridiculous amount of videotapes in her house proves it). She's owned various t.v.s for awhile, but only recently discovered the joys of OnDemand.

merserene is a professional-turned-student who has an unhealthy addiction to some shows. She bought her first TV last year and is particularly fond of old reruns and British comedy.

L&O: SVU - 6.08 "Doubt"

Not guilty.

That would've been my vote if there was actually any voting going on at NBC.com.  But after the last half an hour trying and watching clips of what we've already seen, there was no voting system in sight.  Not fun!

So, I come down on one side of the story, and had been since the beginning.  Myra, the victim, was simply unbelievable to me.  Didn't really believe she was raped because of how she was acting.  Accusing Stabler of sexual harassment?!  That was an even bigger shock to me than the other piece of big news (of which I was spoiled, but still), and convinced me that she tells nothing but lies.  On top of that, her own boyfriend doesn't even seem to really believe her.  Maybe he is of the jealous type, but it seemed he knew Myra had a thing for her professor.

That's not to say Ron Polikoff, the professor, was completely innocent, either.  Coaching his daughter like that was very wrong, and maybe he did get her to write that email.  I was hoping the show would delve further into his version that they had sex only after Myra had shown him her portfolio, and he thought it was crappy.  That would be a pretty good reason why Myra would want to accuse him of rape as an act of revenge.  Of course, Myra disputed it.

As much as I disliked Myra, I can NOT stand her sleazy lawyer, Ms. Scarry.  What an appropriate name!  That was so wrong of her to air out Stabler's dirty laundry in front of everyone.  I wasn't expecting the truth to come out in such a degrading way and felt bad for Stabler the entire show.  Then, there was the crap Ms. Scarry tried to pull about how all the men's organizations would be after her client, and that Polikoff must've contacted them - what proof did she have for such allegations?  Absolutely none.  She definitely came off as a Femi-Nazi, and I don't even like the term.

In the end, though, the conflicting stories leave me not so sure about the rating for this episode.  That major twist in the end - asking viewers to vote - was totally unsatisfying for me.  Add that to the fact I can't really vote for my verdict, I'd have to give this whole TV blended with the internet experience a 7 out of 10.

Not guilty/Hung. But after five minutes I couldn't even get into the NBC site.

I think I'm giving it one point higher than you on the rating: 8 out of 10, just for the rivet factor.

I really had trouble deciding throughout the show. There are always going to be lying, sort of skanky women who do get raped. Guys who SEEM kind are rapists. She had all those bruises, but she'd been lusting after him for awhile. The whole he said/she said worked well in this one.

HOWEVER-- didn't like Scarry (yes, appropriate name!) airing what Stabler had wanted to keep private. Didn't like Benson and Stabler doing their own he said/she said thing themselves. That seemed contrived. And most of all, I hated that Myra accused Stabler of inappropriate touching. After the scene in the stairwell, I turned to Mr. Calm and asked, "What was THAT?" Did it look almost like a come-on from her to you, merserene?

Just another black mark on Stabler's record now. The Record of DeStabilization.

I did think that CM's acting was very good after Scarry dropped that bomb. You know how Stabler treats perps... can you just imagine how he wanted to blow up at her?

I thought Olivia was a bit kinder to Stabler tonight. You could tell how the news about Stabler's marriage shocked her. However, I did want to tell her to shut up when she said, "Come on-- talk to me!" This, after years of refusing to open up to her partner, and griping at him when he's going through rough spots. She's a good detective, but a hypocrite. Oh, I am SO not going to enjoy this 'dependency' we have coming up. And thus ends my Olivia rant for the night. ;)

Next week will hopefully be interesting. Never much cared for Mary Stuart Masterson, but I'll put up with her for a few weeks. B.D. Wong is doing a play and needed the time off.

Yeah, I totally thought it was a come-on to Stabler, the way Myra looked at him when he caught her from falling. Then to accuse him of harassment? That was a big cincher for me, to abuse Stabler's goodwill like that. Inexcusable.

It's too bad Stabler can't contest her allegation or prove his innocence, since it'd be another he said-she said situation. I agree the counterpart in Stabler & Benson's interaction was contrived. Although Benson was nicer to Stabler tonight, if you can believe, Benson totally got on my nerves! Maybe because she was advocating just a bit too hard for the unbelievable victim.

Haven't seen much of Mary Stuart Masterson's work, so I don't know what to expect. Something tells me that this season started off with a bang, but it hasn't managed to keep up the momentum.

I forgot to post what I thought of the ending. Lame. I was shocked-- I didn't like that at all.

It may be a little bit of a character deconstruction for Benson, too, because it seems like she's amped up the advocacy for the victims this year.

I actually think this season's better, especially when compared with last season, which wasn't that good. But since November's almost over, I guess we have to wait until February to see some more really good ones.
