Two Ladies & Their TVs

We love our shows so much we created a blog for it.

About the Ladies

athenawj is a writer-mama-artist-editor-blue ribbon junkie who can't get enough of her favorite t.v. shows (and the ridiculous amount of videotapes in her house proves it). She's owned various t.v.s for awhile, but only recently discovered the joys of OnDemand.

merserene is a professional-turned-student who has an unhealthy addiction to some shows. She bought her first TV last year and is particularly fond of old reruns and British comedy.

Arrested Development: The Ocean Walker

Ah Arrested Development, how I've missed you!  And I will miss you even more when you're no longer on the air.

Tonight's episode has Michael telling the Bluths that he's marrying Rita.  They've never had "sexual relations," as Rita says, so Michael arranges a night in a hotel where they can get some.  George Michael comes with a video that shows Rita as mentally handicapped (i.e. she eats wax fruits repeatedly), and it finally dawns on Michael that he can't marry her.  Meanwhile, the Bluths become enamoured with the idea of Michael marrying Rita upon finding out that Rita owns all of the Wee Britains and is super-rich, and decides to throw them a wedding.  In the end, nothing turns out and Rita leaves.

Moments that made me LOL -

Buster getting his hand/hook stuck in the dashboard while doing "Mr. Roboto."  (Hee.  I love the 80s!)

The picture of Rita "before" she had her plastic surgery, which has Charlize Theron in makeup for her role in "Monster."  (Clever!)

Tobias' handicap due to his hair transplant.  (Poor Tobias, something horrible always happens to him.)

Preview: Tobias' hair getting set on fire by Gob's illusion trick.  (Ditto.)

My query: Aren't Rita and her uncle supposed to be part of some conspiracy against the Bluths?  This episode doesn't resolve it at all, and I'm not sure if it will be resolved after Rita leaves.

It'd been so long that I almost forgot if it was on at 7 or 8 here-- glad I asked the girls to check.

I liked CT much better in this one than all her other appearances, which seemed sort of... pointless (not to mention that she's not so hot on the accent). But like I said, much better in this one.

You listed a lot of my own funnies, but I also loved the Buttpaddle. I'm pretty sure she thought that was what she thought "sexual relations" were, from Uncle's magazines.

Also, after Uncle "locked" her in the apartment, and Michael told her he was going to rescue her, she stuck her head out and said, "Be careful!" I kept laughing because Michael didn't even notice that!

I think at first we, and then the Bluths, were supposed to think that Rita and her uncle were part of a conspiracy. I know there's a word for it and I can't think of it right now, but it's like in plots where someone thinks someone else is something, and it turns out they're not, but the clues still fit. Ugh, that might not make sense. I think the plot worked better once the audience found out she was MH.

Do you know how many eps are left?

A., kinda like a red herring? But I thought the voiceover actually said at one point that Rita & uncle were part of a conspiracy...

You're right, I forgot to list the funnies you mentioned! Though I believe it was "Bumpaddle." :D Couldn't believe that Michael didn't notice Rita managed to open the door and ended up using Buster's hook to slide both of them out the window. I did a "WTF?!" on that one. Agree with you that CT was much better in this episode, but ah well, Rita is no more.

I think there may be about 4 episodes left, but I can't be sure. There are always the DVDs to look forward to.

howard & ania, glad you enjoy AD, too! (Sorry ania, we get so used to discussing things here that we forget to put up big spoiler warnings here sometimes...)
